ADU Construction in Canoga Park on Steel Studs
Canoga Park ADUs framed in light-gauge steel studs that hold their size for the life of the unit, give termites nothing to eat and carry foam board outside.
Cold-formed steel studs give a Canoga Park ADU a frame that will not shrink, twist or feed termites. Lumber keeps losing moisture after it is nailed up, and on an inland lot that drying can open drywall seams and pop nails as the house settles in. Galvanized steel holds its size and does not burn. It does conduct heat readily, so the walls get a layer of rigid foam outside the frame.
How a steel frame goes together
Studs and track arrive cut to length, and the crew joins them with self-drilling screws, so the walls rise with drivers in hand and no nail guns. Shear walls use steel straps or structural sheathing screwed to the studs, and hold-downs at their ends anchor to bolts cast into the slab. Prepunched holes in each stud carry wiring through plastic grommets, so a sharp steel edge cannot strip a cable. Copper water lines pass through plastic isolators that keep the metals apart. An engineer sizes the members from steel tables of their own.
Insulation, finishes and review
Each steel stud moves heat through the wall far faster than the batts around it, which is why the California energy code rates a steel-framed wall below a wood one with the same cavity fill. Rigid foam across the outside face breaks that path, and plaster lath or siding fastens through it into the studs with longer screws. Inside, drywall screws on in the ordinary way. LADBS reviews the engineer's steel framing design for a Canoga Park unit, and its inspector checks screw spacing along the shear walls before drywall closes them in.

ADU Construction in Canoga Park: questions
A steel frame is light, so on a sloped Canoga Park lot a pad held up on piers over lower ground is workable, and so is a cut pad close to the house. Whichever wins, the lot line setbacks hold, and the floor drains still need fall toward the house connection. We compare foundations for each candidate.
Single-story Canoga Park units that qualify and hold 500 square feet of floor or less are inside the package. Its structural sheets list stud sizes, gauges and screw schedules, so the engineer completes them before submittal. A grade's engineering and the construction are priced together in a later quote, after we see the lot.
Steel framing calls for an engineer's design and screws in every joint, and the foam board outside adds material and labor. On a grade, the foundation is where the cost climbs: footings that step down the slope, or piers drilled deeper on the low side. A cut pad also leaves soil to carry away.
