Woodland Hills ADU Construction, Starting at the Lot
Woodland Hills ADUs sited on the first walk of the lot: high corner or near the house, how the sewer drains, how materials arrive and what the ground holds.
Can the unit go at the top of the yard? On a first walk of a Woodland Hills lot, that question gets answered only after we look at how the sewer would reach the street, how materials would reach the spot, and what the ground under it is like. If the lot slopes, the upper corner may offer privacy but cost more to build on. We show you that trade before anything is drawn.
Top of the yard or close to the house
A unit at the high point of a sloped lot drains its sewer downhill with ease, which is a real advantage. The cost comes from everything else: concrete and framing carried up, a retaining wall to hold the pad, and possibly a stair for access. A spot near the main house keeps those carries short and may share a level pad, but it can sit closer to existing windows. We sketch both footprints on the site plan so you can compare setbacks, the path in and the drainage for each one.
Other questions for the first visit
Will the unit need its own electrical service? That rests on a load calculation for the main panel, done before design. Could the existing garage become the unit? It can, if the slab and walls are sound and the drain and panel can take a second dwelling. Will a soils report be needed? Only where the reviewer or the engineer asks for one, and on a sloped Woodland Hills lot we raise that possibility early so it does not surface for the first time at plan review.

ADU Construction in Woodland Hills: questions
Within the setbacks, on ground that can carry a foundation without heavy grading, and where the sewer can fall to the main line. If the lot slopes, the answer might be the high corner, a bench by the house or a spot over the driveway. Each one is priced on its own merits so the comparison is plain.
A one-level unit of no more than 500 square feet is within its scope. A Woodland Hills set goes to LADBS for review, and on a sloped parcel the plan checker reads the site plan and the foundation sheet with particular care. Units outside those limits are designed and quoted separately.
Height above or under the street. A pad up the slope means carrying everything by hand or on a small carrier, and holding that pad with a wall. Those costs, along with any engineering the lot needs, are listed apart from the plans package once we have seen the site.
