New Construction in South Pasadena
New houses in South Pasadena with lighting planned for daily use: a switch at every doorway, sensors where code asks and stairs lit from each level. Licensed.
Stepping into a dark room of a new South Pasadena house, a hand should find a switch beside the door it came through. It sounds small, yet a house used every evening depends on it. We draw the lighting plan with the furniture shown, so fixtures land over tables and counters, switches sit on the latch side of each door, and a stair, if the lot calls for one, can be lit from either end.
Switches where the hand reaches
Every room gets a switch at each entry, and a room with 2 doors gets paired switching so nobody crosses it in the dark. California's energy code asks for high-efficacy fixtures throughout and a vacancy sensor on at least one light in each bath, garage, laundry and utility room, so those lights shut off on their own. Dimmers go where the code calls for them and where a room serves more than one purpose. Under-cabinet kitchen lights get a switch of their own. The electrical sheet shows each switch, and we check every one against the door swings before rough-in.
Stairs, halls and the way in after dark
A stair of 6 or more risers needs a wall switch at each floor level it serves, and the fixture is placed so its light falls on the treads. Halls between bedrooms take low step lights or a dim setting for trips at night. Outside, the energy code ties porch and path lights to a photocell paired with a motion sensor or a timer, so the entry is lit when someone arrives. If the lot slopes, outdoor steps from the street get a light at each run, where a step is easy to miss in the dark. Each of these is drawn before the electrician sets boxes.

New Construction in South Pasadena: questions
Lot lines and grades from a licensed survey, plus a geotechnical report, open the list, since they fix where the house and any outdoor stair can go. For the power layout, the electrical designer also wants the utility's service details, because the panel has to carry lighting, a heat pump, a car charger and the solar array the state requires on a new house.
Cost collects in the gap between where a truck can stop and where the work happens. When a mixer can back up the driveway, its chute reaches the forms. A long side yard or a pad well above the road brings in a pump, a lift for framing bundles or more hands carrying, and each of those gets its own price.
Send the full set, structural pages and geotechnical report included, and it gets priced. On the electrical sheet we count every switch, fixture and sensor and compare them with the door swings. Where a switch lands behind an open door, or an entry has none, we raise it before pricing, so the fix happens on paper.
