Porter Ranch Decks & Patios Through Fire Review
Porter Ranch decks drawn for LADBS fire review on mapped parcels: listed decking, a detailed underside, a protected house joint and engineered footings.
When a Porter Ranch address falls within a mapped fire hazard zone, the LADBS reviewer reads a deck plan for its fire details as closely as for its structure. Some Porter Ranch lots are on those maps, so the address is checked before the first sheet is drawn. The reviewer expects the decking named with its fire listing and the underside detailed against embers. If the lot slopes, a soil report and engineered footings travel with the set.
What the fire sheets must show
The decking appears by brand and product line, with the test listing that qualifies it for a mapped parcel. The underside is then either enclosed with ignition-resistant material down to grade or left open with the ground kept clear. Where the deck meets the house, the wall covering and that joint need an ember-resistant detail, often a metal flashing turned up behind the siding. Any vent near the deck is shown with an ember-resistant screen. A missing listing is a quick way to get a set returned, so the product data goes in with the submittal.
Structure under a rated surface
Some fire-rated boards weigh more or span less than ordinary decking, so the reviewer compares the joist spacing with the maker's span table. Steel posts on base plates can stand in for wood where you want a noncombustible support, and the anchor bolts and plate size are drawn. The beams still need a clear route for their load down to the footings, with each connector called out. A set drawn this way meets the same LADBS review in Chatsworth and Granada Hills. On a level lot the structural sheets shrink, and a patio at grade may need only a site plan.

Decks & Patios in Porter Ranch: questions
If a Porter Ranch lot has grade, the soil report sets the bearing depth, and the engineer sizes each footing to the load its post brings down, with drilled piers where the ground drops sharply. Flat yards can take shallow pads. LADBS compares the open holes with the plan before concrete goes in.
Some Porter Ranch parcels are mapped, so we run the address before design. On a mapped one, the boards must carry an ember-resistance listing, the underside is either enclosed or kept open and clear, and the place where the deck meets the house gets an ember-resistant detail. An unmapped parcel follows standard code, with the board picked for upkeep and appearance.
Height and area pull on separate items. The footprint fixes decking, joist and guard quantities. Raising the deck lengthens posts, adds bracing and can deepen footings. On a mapped parcel the rated board also lifts the surface line. Every one of those items has its own line in our quote.
