Plan check at LADBS follows the load on a North Hills deck from the boards to the soil. The reviewer wants to see each step of that path: joists into hangers, hangers into beams, beams onto posts, posts onto footings, and the ledger into solid house framing with the bolt pattern drawn. Lateral ties that keep the deck from pulling away from the house are part of the same check.

Connections the drawings must show

Every hanger, post cap and post base is called out by type, with fasteners listed. The ledger detail shows bolt size, spacing and the flashing that keeps water off the rim. If lateral resistance comes from the house, hold-down devices tie joists through to interior framing. Tall posts show knee bracing or a braced frame. Guards are drawn with the post attachment that resists the outward load the code sets, and stairs with uniform rise and run. Missing details lead to correction notices, so they go on the first submittal.

Field inspection and nearby work

After approval, an LADBS inspector sees the footing holes open, the framing before boards and the finished deck. The approved plans stay on site for each visit. If the lot slopes, the soil report and footing setback appear on the plans, and the inspector checks depths against them. North Hills parcels are also checked on the fire hazard map before the decking is chosen. Decks in Mission Hills, Granada Hills or Northridge follow the same LADBS process, and their drawings carry the same connection detail.
