ADU Construction in Glendora With Fire-Rated Exterior Walls
Glendora ADUs with Type X gypsum sheathing under the siding, ember-resistant vents and footings matched to the yard, for lots that may face fire hazard rules.
Type X gypsum sheathing, nailed over the studs before the siding goes on, gives a Glendora backyard unit an exterior wall that resists flame. Glass fibers in its core hold the board together in heat. Under fiber cement or stucco, it helps the wall match rated assemblies. A Glendora parcel may lie in a mapped fire hazard zone, since parts of the city do, and then ember-resistance rules apply. If the lot slopes up toward open ground, the wall facing it is detailed first.
Building the rated wall
The gypsum goes on with its edges and fasteners spaced as the listed assembly requires, and joints are taped or covered by the cladding as that listing allows. A water-resistive barrier laps over it, then the siding or stucco. At the base, a strip of noncombustible material keeps the bottom of the wall clear of mulch and grass. Eaves are boxed in with rated soffit material, and attic and underfloor vents use listed ember-resistant designs with fine mesh, so wind-driven embers cannot reach the framing. Glazing is tempered and dual-pane.
Plans, review and the slope
Glendora plan check compares these details with the wildland-urban interface chapter of the state building code when the parcel is mapped, and an inspector sees the sheathing before it is covered. The hazard map is consulted at the start, so a lot outside the zone is not loaded with requirements it does not need. On a sloped lot, the unit's footings and any retaining wall come from a soils engineer's findings, and the downhill face, which stands taller, gets the same rated wall as the other sides.

ADU Construction in Glendora: questions
A Glendora unit needs room for a cleared margin of planting around it, along with the usual setbacks and firm soil. On a slope, a spot back from the top of any bank serves both the footings and that cleared margin, and keeps the unit off the steepest ground.
Glendora designs with no upper story, and with no more than 500 square feet inside, draw on the package. On a mapped parcel, the wall drawings and the structural details call out the rated sheathing and the vents. A visit to the lot comes before any price for construction or for slope engineering.
On a mapped parcel, rated sheathing, listed vents, tempered glass and boxed eaves add material cost over a standard wall. Where the yard falls, the downhill side rests on piers or on footings dug deeper. Fire-rule items and grade items appear as separate groups in the quote.
